App terms of use
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Purpose
These terms of use govern the use of the Callot Island mobile app, available on Google Play, which gives the crossing times between Carantec and Callot Island.
By installing or using the app, you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, don't use the app.
Publisher
The app is published by a private individual, on a non-professional basis, under the pseudonym PiR, who also publishes this site.
Contact: [email protected]
Access to the app
The app is free. It needs no account or sign-up, and has no ads or in-app purchases.
It needs an Internet connection to load the times, at your own cost. Offline, it shows the times already saved on the phone, if any: they may be out of date.
Times are available from three months before to three months after today.
The publisher does their best to keep the app available, but cannot guarantee it. They may change, suspend or discontinue it at any time, without notice.
What the times are worth
The app is independent and unofficial: it has no connection with the town of Carantec or any tourist office.
Times are computed from WorldTides water height predictions: the road counts as passable while the predicted sea stays below a threshold, currently 3.80 m. These are predictions, not observations: wind and low air pressure can bring the sea in earlier than predicted.
The times are therefore a guide only. They don't replace looking at the sea on the spot, the signs, or instructions from the authorities.
Your safety
It is up to you to decide whether to cross, on foot or by car, at your own risk.
Leave a safety margin of about 30 minutes for the way back and don't set off if water reaches the road. Follow the signs on site and the highway code.
Liability
The app is provided as is, free of charge. The publisher does not guarantee that the times are accurate, complete or up to date, nor that the app works without interruption or error.
To the extent permitted by law, the publisher cannot be held liable for the consequences of using the times or of being unable to use the app, including delays, a person or vehicle cut off by the tide, or damage to property.
Permitted use
The app is made available to you for personal, non-commercial use.
Except where the law allows it, you may not query the app's server other than through the app itself, get around its protections, extract the times automatically, or copy, modify, decompile or redistribute the app.
Intellectual property
The app, its texts, images and layout are © PiR, all rights reserved. It relies on open-source software, used under their licences.
Water height predictions come from WorldTides: www.worldtides.info
Donations
The app offers to support the project with a donation through PayPal. Donating is optional: it gives no right to anything in return, and the app stays the same whether you donate or not.
Payment is handled by PayPal, under its own terms. The publisher never receives your bank details.
Personal data
The app asks for no personal data and no permission on the phone other than Internet access. It has no analytics, ads or trackers.
To open quickly and work offline, it saves on the phone the times already viewed and your choice of month view. This data stays on the phone: it is erased if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
To load the times, the app contacts the site's server, hosted by OVH in France. As for the site, this server keeps a technical log of each request, with the IP address, deleted after 14 days.
If you write to [email protected], your message is handled as described in the site's privacy policy, which also sets out your rights: callot.pir-d.com/en/confidentialite
Google Play, through which the app is installed and updated, processes its own data under Google's rules: policies.google.com/privacy
Changes to these terms
These terms may change, for example when the app does. The date they were last updated is at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by French law.
In case of disagreement, first write to [email protected] to look for an amicable solution. Failing that, the dispute will be brought before the competent French courts.
